China Partnership

Learn about the transformative power of cultural diplomacy as AlUla forges a strategic partnership with China, unlocking new opportunities for growth, exchange, and innovation in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

RCU & China Partnership

Building on the alignment and synergies between Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) is dedicated to fostering cultural exchange, tourism, and development through strategic partnerships with key Chinese institutions. These partnerships aim to unlock the full potential of AlUla’s rich heritage, history, and resources while promoting mutual growth and understanding in various sectors. Existing collaboration spans heritage, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, and is expected to extend into sectors such as agriculture and smart city technologies, among others, in years to come.

China’s long history and rich heritage, coupled with its massive tourism industry, make it a crucial partner for RCU. Additionally, China’s advanced technology solutions and rapid modernisation offer valuable insights and resources that can significantly enhance the development and promotion of AlUla.

Preserving and Promoting Cultural Heritage

RCU has entered into a strategic partnership with Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage. Located in central China, Henan Province is one of the most historically and culturally significant regions in the country.

This partnership is part of RCU’s efforts to enhance its cultural network in China under the framework of growing cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and China, with a focus on fostering mutual understanding and sharing valuable knowledge and experience through the lens of the incredible heritage of both regions. Both AlUla and Henan are home to UNESCO World Heritage sites with a shared history spanning over 1,400 years along the ancient incense and Silk Roads, representing a common heritage as capitals of ancient empires.

Leveraging the Silk Road Legacy to Supercharge Tourism Development

AlUla has joined as a founding member of the International Tourism Alliance of Silk Road Cities, supporting cultural cooperation and connectivity between Saudi Arabia and China.

This alliance aims to lay the foundations for long-term, fruitful cooperation and knowledge exchange among cities of significant tourism, historical, and cultural importance within and beyond China. Through its membership in this important initiative, AlUla will enhance its international presence and contribute to the shared goals of sustainable development, cultural preservation, and tourism promotion.
